Tax planning should be done throughout the year, not just December to April. I’m not a CPA and won’t be given any tax advice, however from July to November is a good time to look for a CPA. Both you and the CPA will have time to meet and discuss your tax situation and the best course of action to take, before December 31.
How do you know if you’re in the market for needing a CPA? First, has there been a change in your life? Retirement, new baby, moving, divorce, inheritance or starting your own business. Second, are you having stresses regarding your taxes? Such as are you withholding enough, so you don’t owe in April? Finally, tax planning and/or tax preparation may not be your thing and not the best use of your time. By hiring a CPA, it could be money well spent because you don’t have to shoulder the burden alone.
